AWS Cloud Nexenta Launches Software-Defined storage Service. AWS Cloud Nexenta has chosen Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), to expand its software-defined storage offering to include a hybrid model. The company is targeting users who have already adopted its open-source-driven Software-Defined Storage solution (OpenSDS) and want to adopt the hybrid model. This allows them to take advantage of AWS’s cloud-native file-and block storage services for business apps, as well as integrate with existing on-premises implementations. The company launched NexentaCloud on AWS Marketplace. There are several services available, each with different storage capacities. All of them come with free trials. OpenSDS, an open source project managed by The Linux Foundation, is designed to address “software-defined storage integration problems particularly in scale out clouds dealing with multiple storage platforms providers.” The Foundation project claims it assists vendors in building new solutions using open source software and standards. It relies on industry-wide collaboration to speed up development cycles and improve efficiency so vendors are able to focus on innovation and not plumbing. Nexenta’s enterprise features include snapshots, cloning and data compression. These features, according to the company, support business-critical functions like business continuity and self service test/development. Nexenta stated that the AWS-based solution offers:
- Replication: Integration of replication and storage operations management for all workloads
- Advanced Analytics Insights: Deep storage analytics across datacenters, cloud environments.
- Pre-configured AWS instances optimized for size and efficiency
- TCO is lower: Storage costs are optimized with rapid deployment and removal.
Nexenta quoted Nicolas Ratineau as director of Systems Engineering at Ingrooves. NexentaCloud and NexentaStor are combined to optimize our ability to eliminate our older data centers from our bottom line and instead use the public cloud’s benefits to create a hybrid strategy. Ingrooves now has a reliable DR in cloud and, more importantly, a cost-effective, scalable solution to manage growth, a few terabytes at a.
