Firm Tracks Top AWS Products

2nd Watch, a cloud computing specialist, has released new research that identifies the top Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), products that were used by its customers in the first quarter of this year.
AWS Premier Partner Seattle tracked the top 30 most-popular AWS products. This was in addition to research published last year that showed security tools were the most commonly purchased third-party products for AWS deployments.
2nd Watch has ranked the top AWS products based on the percentage of customers who used them in the first quarter.
It was not surprising that core products such Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) — which is used for data storage — and Amazon Elastic Comput Cloud (Amazon EC2) (which provides resizable compute capacities — were the top choices.
The majority of its customers also used the Simple Notification Service (SNS), which is 89 percent, and the Key Management Service for encryption (87%) as standard AWS services. These services are very common in AWS deployments, and they have been consistently high in customer usage, which has led to unsurprising results. This is not always true for newer products.
2nd Watch stated that Redshift, a data warehouse service, was perhaps less predictable than the use of other AWS products. It was introduced in 2012 as an affordable alternative to systems from IBM, HP, Oracle, and IBM. “The fact that Redshift is used by 17 percent of our customers shows how innovative cloud technology can quickly take a strong position within a legacy software market. Redshift is able to handle large amounts of data and has exceptional response times, so enterprises are switching from legacy software to it.
“A few other relatively new AWS products are Dynamo DB, a high-performing NoSQL data service (27%), Lambda, an automated computing management platform (21%), and Workspaces (19%).
According to the company, it expects future growth in database, management and desktop tools. Here is an infographic that lists the top 30 most-loved products.
