Firms offer Disaster Recovery Service to AWS Managed Service Providers

Orbitera Inc. and Unitrends are teaming up to offer Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) to companies that provide end-user solutions based on the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud.
Orbitera Cloud claims its Commerce Platform helps Managed Service Providers sell, deliver, and manage cloud-based software and infrastructure. Unitrends offers Boomerang, which is a virtual appliance that replicates VMware virtual machine (VMs) to AWS for disaster recovery and backup. According to the companies, their partnership will allow AWS MSPs to differentiate their products and maintain margins through DRaaS and migration, cloudbursting, and billing for AWS infrastructure.
“IT managers who want to reduce costs by eliminating a second server or by controlling virtual machine sprawl will greatly benefit from the Orbitera Cloud Commerce Platform with Unitrends Boomerang,” the companies stated in a statement last Wednesday. AWS MSPs can use the Orbitera platform to simplify billing, invoicing, manage cloud infrastructure spend and create custom price books. They can also bundle software and services and manage support plans. Unitrends Boomerang can optimize their data management and protect them.
Gartner Inc., a research firm, predicted that the public cloud market would reach $89 billion in 2018. Backup and DRaaS are the most requested solutions in this growing market. MSPs and channel partners are preferred by many organizations looking to deploy such solutions, according to the companies. This presents a huge opportunity for MSPs to join the action.
