We left Basecamp and never looked back
Mark Gjaltema is Chief Rebel at Rebel Projects. He shares his story
We started looking for an online collaboration tool when our business began to grow several years ago. We only work with freelancers, so this tool would be our backbone. Both did not do the job. They were too restrictive or too complicated for our users. Basecamp was the solution. Users liked the simple interface and were able to adapt quickly. We were very happy with the platform. However, we needed more information to track time and see project expenses. Basecamp did not intend to add such functions to their platform, so we had third-party add-ons. This doubled our monthly expenses and wasn’t a winning combination. Each month, we struggled to find the hours and expenses for each project, and merge them with yet another invoice system. We recently split the company and started over with a new team. We felt energized and decided to look for another platform. One that has an easy-to-use interface and isn’t too complicated for the average user. We were also excited to discover ActiveCollab on a blog. It had a similar interface to Basecamp but offered all the extras we needed. We immediately cancelled our subscriptions and exported our projects to ActiveCollab. Our users loved it right away, and we are impressed that ActiveCollab made time tracking much easier. ActiveCollab already delights us on a management level by providing insights at a project level. We monitor project budgets much better now. We can send more invoices for time-tracked tickets now that everything is in the same system. We are now focusing on the future.
