What’s new with Google Cloud: The Latest Features and Announcements
We are excited to be a part of the Google CloudNext 21 technology event, which is one of the most anticipated events of the year. It’s less than three months away. It will be a global digital experience that will begin on October 12th and continue until October 14th, 2021. Having recently announced our collaboration with Google as a Google Cloud Partner or GCP, we at NetCom Learning are looking forward to this technological fiesta where there’s so much to learn, share andcollaborate. Before we throw some light on what’sin the pipelinethis yearwithGoogle Cloud, let’s rewind a bit and see how Next 2020 made a big bang with some pathbreaking features and announcements.
In July 2020, Google revealed some amazing features at its Next’20 conference:OnAirvirtual. This online meetup was a replacement for the annualNexteventfor Google customers and partners. However, it didn’t die down as it was a virtual event. It reached new heights with the addition of some amazing functionalities in the Google Cloud. From Confidential Compute and BigQueryOmni to Assured Workloads for Government, Google Cloud gave its customers plenty to look forward to despite the pandemic. These features are crucial for Google Cloud customers. Let’s take a closer look at them.
Confidential Virtual Machines
Google Cloud unveiled the Confidential VirtualMachines, the first product in its Confidential Computing range. Confidential VirtualMachines allows users to run workloads in Google Cloud and keep data encrypted in memory, as well as elsewhere outside of the CPU (Central Processing Unit). While the platform already uses isolation and sandboxing techniques to protect multi-tenant architectures, Confidential VirtualMachines provide memory encryption to isolate workloads in cloud.
BigQueryOmni
Google CloudannouncedBig Query Omni, amulti-cloud analytics solution powered by itsmulti-cloud,hybrid Anthos platform thatmakes users run the same database indifferent data centers andcloud environments.
As part of its multi-cloud and hybrid strategy,BigQueryOmni allows users to analyze datain Google Cloud’s serverless data warehouse from other cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. This allows users to query data stored in Amazon and Azure without having to move it to Google Cloud. BigQueryAnalytics offers the ability to query data wherever it is stored, and without paying high egress fees to move it to Google.
Government Assured Workloads
This feature is specifically designed for government agencies and allows for greater security and compliance. It also provides seamless platform compatibility between government and commercial cloud environments. Customers can use Assured Workloads to Government to automatically control their workloads and process government data in a secure way.
This service is unique because it offers government workload support that no other cloud provider can offer. Other cloud providers use separate data centers and environments to support government workloads. They must compromise on the latest technology and modern benefits that a commercial cloud provides, including service availability and functionality. This means that customers often have to manage two environments for different applications and supply chains. This can lead to unnecessary cost, risk, and complexity in already critical workloads.
